My story will be a little different from the others in this collection. In fact I’m not sure why I was asked to take part in such an intriguing project in such an illustrious company of travellers. The others have lived over many thousands of miles and made homes of the world’s great cities, old and new. Their stories will be wise and weighty with experience; they will look at one city and see many cities overlaid, like the eternal city of Rome. Or, at least, as Rome is said to be—I couldn’t tell you, because I’ve never been there. In all my life I have never left the city of Graz.
